A Life in Bloom

I’m Jen Opheim, owner, grower, and creative director at Bloom Flower Farm. I have a long history in art, photography, marketing + design and have always been inspired by nature. I love creating for myself and especially others.
About 7 years ago, my husband, Jason, and I packed the kids, two dogs, and the last bits of our Chicago life into the car and headed off towards Northeast Iowa. Excitement and uncertainty filled my mind as we drove toward the small, rural town of Decorah, Iowa. We had left careers, friends, and family behind in pursuit of my husband’s lifelong dream to farm, and the shift felt monumental.
It didn’t take long to appreciate and adore Decorah. It’s truly a special place. Filled with beauty, nature, heartfelt community, and lovely friends. We felt grateful to be welcomed into this community, and our new life started to grow.
Once we got fully settled, we took stock of our lives, careers, and goals. Were we doing what we set out to do when we left the city? It was important for us to connect our different talents and do something we all loved. Something that would marry my love of design, Jason’s love of farming, and our whole family’s enjoyment of watching things grow. Now our flower journey begins…
